KITCHEN CABINET TRENDS TO AVOID

When starting a kitchen renovation, we often look for inspiration, whether that is through Pinterest, Google, or design magazines. While many elements are popular and even timeless, a few are not. Here is our list of trends to avoid in a kitchen renovation.

All White Kitchens

We agree that white is a timeless color, but it can be overdone or used for a sterile design. When paired with other colors and materials, a white kitchen can be transformed into an elegant and inviting area. Here are some of our best tips:

  • Wood: adding a custom wood island not only provides additional workspace and storage but also breaks up the white perimeter.
  • Metal: Stainless steel appliances, brass, silver, or nickel hardware, and even a mesh overlay on the cabinet doors add visual interest to the white background.
  • Lighting: Bright lights with dark or even color frames can break up the white streak and make the space pop.
  • Countertops: Dark countertops are the perfect way to create a dramatic contrast and make the white stand out even more.
  • Backsplash: Using bright colors for the backsplash adds contrast to the space between the upper and lower cabinets and makes a statement.

White is a great color, but usually needs to be coupled with some additional elements to create a complete look that next year’s trend will not outdo.

Subway Tile

Backsplash is a great asset to the kitchen, as we just discussed, but specific patterns have been overused in the last decade, and the subway is one of them. Even though it is an excellent design, overuse has diminished its unique beauty. There are several other options available, such as herringbone and mosaic. Another great choice is to go all the way up to the ceiling, and some homeowners continue their countertops up, making a beautiful statement piece and artwork.

One Person’s Style

Just because something works well for one person doesn’t mean it will for you. Take pot racks. They look amazing, especially on those cooking shows where the chef merely reaches above to grab what they need. However, what is the look of your home? Probably not. Before selecting, consider your routine and what works best for you. If it will be a functional element in your kitchen, then absolutely, but don’t do it to keep up with the Joneses; after all, your needs are uniquely yours. Our design team is excellent at assessing your needs and finding the best way to represent your design style.

Over The Top Hardware

While we all enjoy some glamor now and then, hardware with simple lines, curves, and textures provides the best value because it goes well with multiple styles and tastes, and is also easier to resell. Metal is still one of the more popular options, especially black matte and polished silver or nickel. Both go with a variety of painted cabinets and natural wood tones. Try to avoid oversized options as well, limiting those to the necessary cabinet, such as paneled appliances. Our design team is happy to go over several choices that will work well with your layout and color choices.

Timeless Style

When you do a renovation, you want it to last, not something that has to be redone every decade, which is why we work hard at staying up to date on current cabinet trends, checking out what is here to stay and what is merely a fad. Our goal is to create a home that is ideally suited to your needs and that will last. Connect with us and let’s start planning your project.

Taking the time to select a layout and design style that suits you is important. Here, we answer some of the more common aspects to consider when designing the ideal master bathroom.

Kitchen islands are a great place to add extra seating, but built-in seating, often called banquettes, is a wonderful way to add seating with style. Let’s discuss the benefits of including built-in seating in your kitchen and explore ways to incorporate it into your design.

Choosing the right countertops is crucial to enhance the overall look and feel of your kitchen, bathroom, office, pantry, or laundry room. Countertops are like the “icing on the cake” for cabinetry, and they can make or break the design of your space.

Choosing the right home products can help you create a wellness environment, giving you more peace of mind. Spend time evaluating your home and identifying areas for improvement. Let your home be the best it can be for everyone.

We love old homes, the history they hold, and the unique beauty each possesses. Preserving these dwellings is something we enjoy being part of because it gives us a chance to protect the past while making a few modifications that make it more convenient for today’s owners. There are many factors to consider for such a special project.
