While we are a custom cabinet maker, hardware plays a big part in what we do; after all, you can’t have one without the other. Hardware always adds the finishing touch to the cabinets and helps make them functional for everyday use. We always say that it is the jewelry of our cabinets, and just like jewelry, some trends come and go. Hardware has come a long way over the years, and there are so many options now that there is a style for everyone. As we enter the new year, we thought it would be helpful to share some of the popular hardware trends for 2021 so you can make the best decision for your project.

Hardware Trends In Styles For 2021

There are so many options available to homeowners now that suit every area of the home, from the office to the kitchen. Here are some of the forecasted style hardware trends

Latches: This style will continue to rise in popularity in 2021, especially for drawer hardware. They are a beautiful complement to the farmhouse look and give an elegant feel to any space.
Bar: This will remain a top choice among homeowners. Not only is it practical, but it also gives cabinets a classic look. It also goes with multiple design styles, making it a good choice.
Oversized: Hardware in this category ranges from 6 to 21 inches, with the biggest ones used as appliance pulls. Oversized pieces give you more room to grab, making it easier to open doors and drawers, especially in the kitchen.
Backplate: A piece installed flush against a cabinet, highlighting the hardware mounted to it.

One important factor to consider when choosing hardware for a space is its purpose. Be sure to talk with your designer about the area’s specific needs so they can help you select hardware ideally suited to it.

Hardware Trends In Finishes For 2021

Hardware finishes can transform a space and provide a stunning contrast to the design. Over the years, a shift has broadened the options, but here are the 2021 hardware trends predictions.

Black matte: nothing contrasts better or makes a bolder statement against white cabinets than black matte (flat). Many homeowners find this a beautiful compliment, plus a fantastic focal point.
Oil-rubbed brass: Brass has been trending for some time, but this option has made it a sought-after choice. It is elegant as metal but not bold. It also goes well with wood cabinets.
Natural finishes: this option is unique as it pairs natural materials such as wood with another element to make it stand out but still complement the space.

Mix It Up In 2021

Over the last few years, homeowners have broken traditions and started mixing and matching with their hardware choices. Knobs paired with pulls and latches matched with handles. Hardware trends have caught up with many manufacturers, so they now offer multiple finishes across a variety of options, allowing you to mix and match your heart’s content. This allows even more functionality as well, since drawers do better with cup pulls, and cabinets work best with pulls and knobs.
