Cabinet Trends for 2021

Are you ready to update your home? Have you been scrolling through Pinterest for inspiration, maybe browsing the latest projects on HOUZZ? Having done hundreds of projects over the last two decades, we have seen multiple styles come and go. We know that many of our clients wonder what style, layout, and elements should be included in their design which is why we like to share the latest trends in the cabinet world. As we explore some of the ones coming to 2021 we hope it will spark your inspiration and help you find the look you were wanting for your home. Let’s talk about cabinets in 2021.

Open up in 2021

Many homeowners are not just wanting to update their cabinets but want to step away with the familiar by choosing a different look all together. Trading out some upper cabinets for open shelving and floating shelves is gaining momentum in the design world. People enjoy the beauty and elegance it brings to a kitchen plus the backsplash becomes more of an art piece since it is more visible. Glass panel doors are also present in multiple designs giving a break to the traditional closed cabinets and providing some visual interest to the design. This always makes for a beautiful effect in any room and works great to display certain items that you treasure such as that heirloom dish from your grandmother.

 Wood in 2021

Walnut is a wood that has been gaining in popularity and this trend will continue into the new year. It has a beauty all its own and is considered a versatile wood, one that works well with multiple styles and purposes. Walnut makes a statement when used for a kitchen island, floating shelves, and even interior cabinet finishes. Of course it is also beautiful as a complete set of cabinets. The warmth of its wood also means it makes a great compliment to multiple color schemes. If you are looking for an elegant wood, walnut is your option.

Shaking it up in 2021

Shaker cabinets are still among the most popular cabinet styles due to their timeless appeal and elegant look. They work well with most wood types and color choices. It is also a great choice for a variety of areas in the home including the kitchen and bathroom. Shaker cabinets are also a great choice because they are so versatile and go with a myriad of design choices, from farmhouse to modern shakers are the way to go.

 Painting in 2021

Painted cabinets remain a popular choice when choosing cabinets and may even begin to surpass the traditional wood cabinets. This does not mean that the natural wood look is going away anytime soon but painted cabinets are a great choice on its own or paired with natural wood. Light colors continue to trend and two-toned kitchens remain popular as well. White and black kitchens are an up and coming trend that are often paired with gold accents such as hardware making a beautiful statement.  White and warm-gray cabinets are also two other options that remain timeless and can be matched with any design style plus can be contrasted beautifully with darker or more bold hardware choices.

Storage in 2021

2020 became the year of staying close to home and with more time spent around the house some things became evident, one of which was the need for storage and organization. As we head into the new year more focus will be given to the need for a place to put things. Pull-outs, roll-outs, and spice racks will be included in kitchens. Bathrooms will have adequate drawer space, ones that are deep enough to hide all those hygiene tools too. Home offices are also a top priority now that many work from home. Having a dedicated space means you can be more productive and more focused on the task at hand. Pantries, mudrooms, and built-ins should definitely be put on the idea list when considering a renovation in 2021.
