Behind The Scenes

WHAT IS CAD AND CNC?

Technology Paired With Craftsmanship.

Here at Walker Woodworking, we are passionate about producing the very best quality and being above the standard. Our CEO, Travis Walker, believes in pairing the power of technology with skilled craftsmanship, so he spends time researching the latest tools and techniques available to woodworking. His research led him to buy a new software program called CAD, short for “computer-aided design,” and a CNC machine. These additions have enabled us to be more effective in our design process and expand into more elaborate designs. Let’s break each down so you can better understand our process and how it benefits you.

What Is CAD?

Before this, designs were drawn by hand, and precise designs are the key to any quality project. Not only does it simplify the design process, but it also reduces waste, increases productivity, and minimizes troubleshooting.

Additionally, the use of CAD allows us to show our clients in real-time what their design will look like during a design meeting, and edit and modify the design with them so they can virtually see what they will receive. It makes the design phase more precise and allows clients to move forward confidently.

What Is CNC?

With the use of CAD, we could take another step and purchase a CNC wood router, which stands for computer numerical control. This piece of equipment allows us to transfer designs directly from the computer to the machine, which can cut, shape, and engrave the wood perfectly.

We can be faster and more precise in production and maintain our high standard of quality, which remains at the core of our business. This also means we can reproduce with accuracy, meaning that multiple cabinet pieces for a project are precisely the same, resulting in a beautiful project. Technology With Craftsmanship

Quality remains at the top of Travis’s list, which drives him to continually look for ways we can harness the power of technology so that we are cutting down on waste, increasing productivity, and remaining true to the meaning of the word “craftsmanship”. For many people, a home is the biggest investment they will make. While it is always exciting to make property improvements that make it feel more like home, it’s always a good idea to consider whether the money you are spending will convert into added value when it comes time to move on and sell.

There is evidence that having a home office can make a home more attractive to potential buyers. Here we share a few things we believe are essential to creating an office that will help make it easier to meet those deadlines and check off that to-do list.

Home shows are packed with hundreds of exhibitors and eye-catching displays—all designed to grab your attention. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed the moment you walk through the doors. To help you make the most of your visit, we’ve put together a few simple tips to guide your day, keep you focused, and ensure you walk away with the information you came to find.

Today’s kitchen trends encompass far more than colors, countertops, flooring, and appliances.  Your grandmother’s recipe cards or cookbooks are now the latest framed Pinterest project.  Milk, bread, and flour, once staples in your grandmother’s kitchen, have now been replaced with a refrigerator that includes HD televisions and mounted kitchen tablets that are functional and fun.

Construction crews have left your home, and it is time to put your space back together with the finishing touches.
