For years, the kitchen color palette has remained the same, clean and unified by one color. Design trends have caused a shift by incorporating new and fun colors, such as light blues and charming greens. Homeowners and designers have tried something new, which is two-toned kitchens, and they have gained in popularity. It is an innovative and beautiful design option.  Some, however, may ask why they should even consider adding a second color or wonder what the benefits would be for them. Here, we share some reasons you might want to consider including another color.

What Is A Two-Toned Kitchen?

Two-toned kitchens use two different cabinet colors to create a unique look. It is a great way to generate interest in the design while still having a unified space. Often, this choice is made by having the kitchen island a single color and the surrounding cabinets a contrasting color. It can also be done by painting some and leaving the others in natural wood. Choosing different colors for the uppers and lowers is also an option. This choice is up to the homeowner’s preference and their design style.

  • Two-toned kitchens make a space look elegant. They provide visual interest to the design and give the area a unique, upgraded feeling.

A Few Design Tips For The Two-Toned Kitchen

When designing a two-toned kitchen, keep a few things in mind to create a beautifully finished space.

  • Focal point: The eye must be naturally drawn to an area in a room. In the kitchen, this is often done by painting the island a different color, but that is not the only option or the most practical, especially if you have a galley kitchen. One way to create a focal point is to choose the upper and lower cabinets in different colors. Your designer may also have some interesting and unique options.
  • Color choice: Similar shades or a bold pop? This is up to you and what you want your kitchen to say. Similar shades produce a very unified design, while contrasting colors make for an excellent focal point and visual interest.
  • United: It is essential to create unity in the space, which can be accomplished with a similar color scheme or matching hardware throughout.
