Supply and Demand during a Renovation

You are thinking of doing a home renovation, but wonder what the first step is. Do you write down a wish list, contact a designer, or gather ideas for what you’re looking for in your new space? The answer is yes. All of these elements are important when wanting to do a renovation. It is easy to think that if you want a new kitchen by Thanksgiving, starting in Summer is sufficient time, but not always. Depending on current lead times and the types of materials needed for your design, the timeline could be extended. Getting a jump start on the different areas involved is essential to completing your project by the desired timeline. There are so many factors that can affect an area of your renovation such as ordering supplies or particular items such as lumber. Lead times  are another area  which  can delay projects. Having been in business for over 20 years, we have learned it is never too early to begin planning for a renovation. We understand  the process can be overwhelming for the homeowners, so we are sharing some of our best tips and timeline ideas with you.

Design planning

This can be as early as a year to eighteen months. While this may seem like an extreme timeline, we find that the earlier the better as it allows sufficient time to create a design that is just right for your home. Custom cabinets mean we need to order the wood, stains, paints, and additional items used to build  a quality product. Sometimes supply and demand play a part in how quickly we are able to get certain items. By starting early you have a better chance of avoiding these delays, however we feel it is important to note that there is always the possibility of unforeseen or unavoidable problems that can arise. We always encourage our clients to come talk to us as soon as they are thinking of a renovation or before construction has begun on their new house. If you have questions we are always happy to talk with you and let you know based on our current schedule when the best time to start would be. You can also read more details about renovation planning here.

Ordering process

Details matter in any project but while you may have found the perfect pendant light or furniture piece there is no greater disappointment then learning it won’t be available in time. This is why we stress the importance of getting an early start, it is better to know that an item is no longer available or won’t be ready to ship for several weeks. Starting early allows you to ensure that the selections you make are secured or you may need to look for another option. When looking through the different cabinet styles, wood choices, or colors be sure to write down your top 3 choices, so that your designer can check on them all and let you know what is available.
