About Walker Woodworking

From Hobby to Handmade Legacy

In the 1990s, Travis Walker—then a paramedic—found solace and creativity in woodworking during his time off. When a red oak tree, planted by his grandfather, died, Travis cut it down and transformed the wood into a crib for his firstborn daughter and a china hutch, which are both still cherished today. Recognizing his new passion for woodworking, in 1996, he borrowed $3,000 from his grandmother to purchase tools to help him on his new venture.

What began in Travis’s aunt’s garage, then his father-in-law’s shop, soon expanded into his first 2,100-square-foot facility. In 2000, Walker Woodworking was officially incorporated and was complete with Travis’s first employee.

Building Foundations, Growing Ambitions

In 2001, Walker Woodworking began to flourish. By 2006, his wife, Stacey, joined him as a full-time business partner, overseeing office operations, marketing, and administration. Travis remained dedicated to craftsmanship: designing and building custom kitchen and bath cabinets, built-ins, and unique furniture pieces with an unwavering commitment to quality and customer service.

Over the years, Travis expanded his 2,100-square-foot shop six times, which grew into a 10,000-square-foot building. By 2012, the team had grown to 20 full-time staff members, and the team had completed over 400 kitchen projects.

Expansion, Innovation, & New Horizons

In 2017, Travis and Stacey recognized shifts in the cabinet market. Clients wanted lower-tier cabinetry for bathrooms and laundry rooms, but still wanted high-quality custom cabinetry for kitchens. They decided to shift their business strategy, offering custom and semi-custom cabinetry to meet their clients’ needs. Following this decision and a revenue growth, Greenbrook Design Center, a 5,000-square-foot showroom, was opened in February of 2018 in downtown Shelby.

Recognizing further growth, in 2021, Walker Woodworking was expanded once more—relocating to a 75,000-square-foot facility just two miles from the showroom, replacing the original shop and reflecting their escalating ambitions.

As of the most recent update, Walker Woodworking proudly operates out of a 75,000-square-foot facility, supporting a team of 32 skilled professionals—engineers, artisans, and craftsmen—who bring custom cabinetry visions to life across the region.
